Tyler Bainter - Conductor

I will be conducting the world premiere of my piece “Hic Sunt Leones” on May 15th with the Hoover High School Orchestras in Des Moines, Iowa.

This piece is dedicated to my high school orchestra director and current colleague, Lisa Fried, as she is retiring this year.

The title is Latin and translates to “Here be Lions”, a warning Roman cartographers placed on unexplored territories. In the literal sense it warned people of unknown danger. However, symbolically I have interpreted it to reflect the uncertainty of a new chapter in life. Reflection and resolution are huge themes for the piece, as it reflects the concurrent reality.
