Únase al Día de Llamadas del Congreso Nacional

Exprese su oposición a que la aplicación de los derechos civiles en materia de educación especial y discapacidad deje de estar bajo la jurisdicción del Departamento de Educación de los Estados Unidos.

El 16 de junio, el Departamento de Educación anunció que transferirá la administración diaria de la Oficina de Educación Especial y Servicios de Rehabilitación (OSERS), que alberga la Oficina de Programas de Educación Especial (OSEP), al Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos, y que trasladará la Oficina de Derechos Civiles (OCR) al Departamento de Justicia.

La OSEP es la oficina que convierte la Ley de Educación para Personas con Discapacidades (IDEA) en protecciones reales para los aproximadamente 7.5 millones de niños con discapacidades a los que atiende. La OCR es a la que acuden muchas familias cuando una escuela niega servicios o adaptaciones a sus hijos.

Voice your opposition to moving special education and disability civil rights enforcement out of the U.S. Department of Education.

On June 16, the Department of Education announced it will hand day-to-day administration of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS), which houses the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), to the Department of Health and Human Services, and shift the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) to the Department of Justice.

OSEP is the office that turns the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) from words on paper into real protections for the roughly 7.5 million children with disabilities it serves. OCR is where many families turn when a school denies their child services or accommodations.

The more calls Congress hears on Thursday, the louder the message. Thank you for standing up for students with disabilities!
