ADHD is not one-size-fits-all.
Two people can have the same diagnosis and have very different experiences.
For one person, ADHD may look like mental drift, forgetfulness, losing track of time, or struggling to finish what they started.
For another, it may look like restlessness, impulsive decisions, interrupting, fidgeting, or feeling driven by urgency.
For many people, it is a combination of both.
ADHD can affect attention, emotional regulation, memory, task initiation, motivation, organization, time awareness, and follow-through.
That is why ADHD is not just “being hyper.”
It is also not just “being distracted.”
It is a nervous system difference that can show up differently depending on the person, the environment, stress level, support, expectations, and demands.
Same diagnosis.
Very different experience.

Mental health letters can get confusing fast.
LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LADC, psychologist, psychiatrist, PMHNP… it can feel like alphabet soup when you are trying to find the right support.
The letters matter because they tell you something about a provider’s training, scope, and professional background.
But they are not silos.
An LPC may provide relationship counseling.
An LCSW may provide talk therapy.
An LMFT may work with individuals.
An LADC may support recovery while also understanding broader mental health needs.
A psychologist may provide therapy and/or psychological testing.
A psychiatrist or PMHNP may diagnose and prescribe medication.
The important part is whether the provider has the appropriate license, training, supervision, experience, and scope for the care being offered.
The best fit is not just the letters after someone’s name.
It is also the relationship, approach, training, comfort level, and whether you feel understood and supported.
When looking for a therapist, it is okay to ask:
What is your license?
What do you specialize in?
What training do you have for my concern?
How do you usually approach this kind of work?
You are allowed to understand who you are trusting with your care.
