Beatrix Potter first created Peter Rabbit in an illustrated letter in 1893, later publishing the beloved book in 1902. Over the years she introduced many memorable characters - Benjamin Bunny, Squirrel Nutkin, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mr. Jeremy Fisher, and more - each inspired by real animals and her deep love of the British countryside. Potter eventually settled in England’s Lake District and left her farms and over 4,000 acres to the National Trust.
