Goliath
Is an Onaqui legend. His battles are notorious and he carries those scars.. He is older now and stays mostly away from the South herd. There are times he disappears from view for months on end and I always am left thinking he has left his desert home to run among the stars, but somehow he always reappears. He moves with deliberate steps and at a slower pace but he seems to get more beautiful with every passing season. It’s always a great day when I am lucky enough to be in his presence. This day a few weeks ago was particularly wonderful as I watched him walk into the South herd, something he rarely does. I watched most the stallions raise their heads as he walked by a few walking in the opposite direction, Goliath still attracts a lot of attention and has a commanding presence. On this day Sundance and he exchanged breaths and some tender moments. I celebrate every moment with him because I know how very fragile life is in the desert.

Blue eyed filly is the most pursued mare in the Onaqui South herd. She has been with multiple different stallions over the past few years, all desperately trying to keep her, but she has a mind of her own, and an intensity that rivals any stallion in the South. After she had Annie this past year, I was glad to see Gideon finally protect her and little Annie along with Raven who she protected as a very young foal. She seemed calmer and Annie was thriving as well. Then one summer day I watched Eclipse who had inserted himself into the small band, run full throttle and stand right next to Blue eyed filly, ears pinned and side eyeing anyone who came close. As the months progressed I noticed he was no longer on the perimeter but usually right next to her.
A few weeks ago I noticed Eclipse was the only stallion at her side. He nuzzled her constantly, and I can honestly say he actually looked smitten! It seems to be just the three of them for now and I think Eclipse and Blue eyed are very much alike, they match each others intensity and wild spirit. Love in the wild!
