Another recent generator service call is a great reminder of why routine maintenance matters.

When our technician arrived, the generator had trouble starting. After a quick inspection, we found heavily corroded battery terminals and deteriorated battery cables. Over time, corrosion can build up and restrict proper electrical connection, leading to weak starts, intermittent operation, or complete failure when the system is needed most.

In this case, the issue wasn’t a major component failure — it was preventable wear and lack of maintenance.

After cleaning the terminals and replacing the damaged cables, the generator started and ran as expected again.

Generators are designed to sit idle for long periods, but that also means small issues can go unnoticed until an outage happens. Regular inspections help catch:
• Corroded or loose connections
• Weak or failing batteries
• Worn cables and components
• Fuel and electrical system issues

Routine maintenance ensures your generator is ready when you need it most — not when it’s already too late.

If you haven’t had your generator checked recently, now is a good time to schedule a service visit.
