Today marks International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

I joined Senator Catherine Blakespear in Sacramento in support of Senate Bill 936, building on our local efforts to ban the sale of NOX across the state.

At the County of Orange, my office successfully banned NOX and Kratom sales, and achieved a record 5-year low in Fentanyl-related deaths. When we prioritize prevention and treatment rooted in research and respect, we save lives.

Yesterday, we broke ground on Common Good, a first-of-its-kind publicly owned workforce reentry campus, offering stable housing, job training, mentorship, and a reliable path to work.

While many only see justice-involved individuals for their past, Common Good and the County of Orange see these complex life stories for what they truly represent: opportunity. When people can earn a paycheck and support themselves and their families, they have a better chance of moving forward instead of returning to the circumstances that brought them into the system.

Orange County is home to more than 690,000 seniors — 1 in 10 fall victim to elder abuse. With the highest percentage of OC seniors living in the Fifth District, I remain focused on ensuring their physical safety, health, and emotional well-being.

If you or someone you love is a victim of scams or elder abuse, call our Adult Protective Services 24-hour hotline at 800-451-5155.

82 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the GI Bill into law. To this day, this legislation shows our veterans our gratitude with invaluable benefits, financial support, and higher education opportunities.

For decades, I've worked diligently on providing Orange County's more than 105,000 veterans with su***de prevention, mental health services, housing, job placement, and supports for veteran-owned businesses. Because the GI Bill taught us: when we invest in our service members, our entire community thrives.
