1:00-2:00 pm @ SRB - MPR

I wanted to be sure you know about an event this afternoon focusing on South/Southeast Asia.

In addition to having many incoming international students, UCSB has a rich community of faculty and staff from around the world. OISS is launching GLOBAL VOICES to introduce our campus to more of our global community, one region at a time. The first region is South/Southeast Asia and we have four excellent representatives (campus rock stars!) to speak on the panel about the educational systems they grew up with.

Today’s panelists are:
ZAVEENI KHAN-MARCUS (Sri Lanka)
Director, UCSB MultiCultural Center

SHIRLEY GEOK-LIN LIM (Malaysia)
Professor, English

HIMANGSHU CHOWDHURY (Electrical Engineering student) (India)

& JOI DUNCAN (Psychology/Education student who participated in EAP in Thailand)

Thursday, November 3, 2016
1:00-2:00 pm
In the Student Resource Building MultiPurpose Room (SRB MPR)

Students, faculty, and staff welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

I'm writing to let you know that two important events will be occurring later this month to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Suez Crisis and War of 1956. They are:

A screening, followed by discussion, of the acclaimed BBC documentary film "The Other Side of Suez," taking place on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, at 7:30 PM in HSSB 6020 (McCune Room).

A set of academic talks, featuring scholars from UCSB and elsewhere, on the significance and legacy of the Suez Crisis and War within Egypt, in the Middle East, and internationally. These talks will take place on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, from 1:30 to 5:30 PM in the UNIVERSITY CENTER HARBOR ROOM (lower level of UCen).

The events are sponsored by the UCSB College of Letters and Science, the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, and the Center for Cold War Studies and International History. A fuller description is appended below. A flyer announcing both events and a schedule for the Friday talks are attached to this email.

Both events are free and open to the public. Delicious refreshments, also free of charge, will be served. Don't miss this exciting program!
