Over the last 5 years, has helped sponsor and been a part of over 20 spay/neuter clinics around the country/world. The one problem we’re always trying to solve is access. And almost always, when you make access easy for people, they always choose to help their pets. So that’s always the goal of these clinics—to make that choice as easy as possible. And is one of the few organizations that can provide that kind of access to the communities and pets around the world that need it most. They’re really good at it. No veterinarian for 1,000 miles? Their experienced team will travel to you. And since the communities in Alaska are so spread out and remote, they can charter a small airplane to fly pets in. Again, it’s all about providing easy access. Dollar for dollar, it’s probably the best way to help the most dogs because it focuses on prevention.

This week, the teams at and Alaska Rural Veterinary Outreach (ARVO) set up a full mobile vet clinic in Nome, Alaska and flew dogs in from tiny remote villages to get the care they’ve never had access to—spay/neuter, vaccines, full exams, injury treatment, even surgical procedures.
The closest veterinarian is 1,000+ miles away, and most of the villages here are only accessible by small airplane. So for many of these dogs, this clinic will be the first and only time they ever see a veterinarian in their entire lives. Some dogs had infections. One had been shot in the leg. Another had a tumor removed from his ear. A few were surrendered. But most were flown back home the next day—healthier and safer than they arrived.
