This SHE-WE-NA, or Zuni Pueblo, Shalako doll carving represents perhaps one of the most noteworthy katsinas of this incredibly storied and long-standing pueblo. They are considered messengers to the gods, and they transport messages throughout the year, in addition to bringing rain and favorable weather conditions.

Hopi Pueblo Cottonwood Root White Ogre (Wiharu) Katsina Doll (Learn More Here 🧐)
https://www.adobegallery.com/art/hopi-pueblo-cottonwood-root-white-ogre-wiharu-katsina-doll-carving
This carving was completed by Hopi -Tewa artist Samuel Neil Kayquoptewa in 1991 at which time Adobe Gallery purchased it and sold it to a client. Now it is back for us to sell again. It is basically a one-piece carving from bottom to top with certain items added separately. The obvious add-ons are the bow in the left hand, the bug eyes and the feathers on and around the head. It appears that everything else is from the same piece of wood.

Three Original Paintings of Koshare with Watermelons by Neil David (Learn More Here 🧐)
https://www.adobegallery.com/art/watercolor-painting-koshare-watermelons-neil-david-hopi-pueblo
This charming set of three original paintings by Neil David, framed together as a single work, features the beloved Tewa or Hano Clowns — known as Koshares — engaged in various stages of watermelon indulgence. Each panel is signed and dated 1987 and showcases David's signature wit and expressive style.
In the first panel, titled Tewa Clown Anticipating Eating This Watermelon, a Koshare's eager expression reveals his overwhelming anticipation. Through exaggerated emotion and gesture, David humorously illustrates the lesson behind gluttony, a common theme in clown performances. The second panel, Tewa Clown in Watermelon Patch, depicts a clown sitting tenderly beside a watermelon in a garden, gently patting it with admiration. The scene captures the clown's mischievous affection and is rendered with the warmth and whimsy that define David's most popular works. In the third panel, Hano Clown Eating Watermelon, the moment of indulgence arrives. With watermelon in hand, the clown is caught in the act of unrestrained enjoyment. The composition, though small in scale, is full of humor and character.
