Here are the four things you should focus on:
1. Look for a high margin per customer: Target businesses in industries where they make at least $500 per customer. When a business has a high profit margin, they won't feel the pinch of your agency's monthly retainer. Examples are roofing contractors, wellness clinics, and high-end retailers.
2. Ensure that they have a physical address: A common mistake newer agencies make is going after SABs that hide their addresses on their GBP. Ranking a profile without an address is difficult and typically takes at least six months just to start seeing results.
3. Find the "Goldilocks" review profile
Look for businesses that fit this criteria:
More than 10 reviews: This shows they have a customer base and care about reviews, but don't have the automated software to scale them.
A rating of 4.0 or higher: Poor ratings show a poorly run business.
Avoid zero reviews: If they have no reviews, they likely do not value them at all or lack the customer volume needed to generate them.
4. Target the #3 to #10 ranking range: Do not pitch businesses that are already ranking #1 across their city; they have no room to improve and are likely to decline your services. The sweet spot is businesses ranking in the #3 to #10 positions.
