Recording my composition "Under the Rainforest Canopy" at The EastWest Studios. The building on Sunset Boulevard that we today know as EastWest Studios has an interesting history. In the 30’s, it was the largest grocery market on the West Coast, soon to be transformed into a Casino with wild burlesque shows and not-so-legal gambling. In attempts to get around new liquor and gaming laws, its name was changed several times. By 1950 the casino had closed and the building was converted into a radio broadcast center. Bill Putnam, Frank Sinatra’s personal engineer, bought it and started the process of transforming the space into the recording studio, that came to produce some of the biggest hits of the pop music era (Frank Sinatra - Strangers in the Night, Elvis - 1968 Comeback Special, The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, The Mamas & the Papas - California Dreaming etc).
