Could the Pandemic Transform Nursing Homes? 12/08/2021

"Nontraditional Green House/small NHs [nursing homes] have better outcomes than traditional NHs in numerous areas; evidence now demonstrates they have lower rates of and COVID-19 mortality than other NHs as well. As such, they are an especially promising model as NHs are reinvented post-COVID."
Our documentary film "The Green House Project" will be released for streaming on Alexander Street, Part of Clarivate ( ProQuest, Part of Clarivate ) and Infobase next year.

Could the Pandemic Transform Nursing Homes? If COVID-19 taught us anything, it's that it's time to rethink (and redesign) America's long-term care facilities

“Woodstock: Interviews and Recollections” is out now. It has few pictures; it is all text, basically unedited. The way it was originally written, or spoken, when we began this "written reunion” some 21 years ago. What an odyssey. Some have passed on, alas. I hope you can access a copy, share it, let your friends know it is out, enjoy it, talk about it. This is an opportunity to “humanize” the making of one of the most extraordinary films known to humankind. Talk about it

How FDA Failures Contributed to the Opioid Crisis 09/02/2021

"Over the past 25 years, pharmaceutical companies deceptively promoted opioid use in ways that were often neither safe nor effective, contributing to unprecedented increases in prescribing, opioid use disorder, and deaths by overdose. This article explores regulatory mistakes made by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in approving and labeling new analgesics. By understanding and correcting these mistakes, future public health crises caused by improper pharmaceutical marketing might be prevented." - Andrew Kolodny, MD

How FDA Failures Contributed to the Opioid Crisis Pharma has long marketed opioids in ways that contribute to opioid use disorder and deaths by overdose. Regulatory mistakes in approving and labeling new analgesics by the FDA didn’t make us safer.

Purdue Pharma Is Dissolved and Sacklers Pay $4.5 Billion to Settle Opioid Claims 09/02/2021

Purdue Pharma, the maker of the highly addictive painkiller OxyContin, was dissolved on Wednesday in a wide-ranging bankruptcy settlement that will require the company’s owners, members of the Sackler family, to turn over billions of dollars of their fortune to address the deadly opioid epidemic.

But the agreement includes a much-disputed condition: It largely absolves the Sacklers of Purdue’s opioid-related liability. And as such, they will remain among the richest families in the country.

Purdue Pharma Is Dissolved and Sacklers Pay $4.5 Billion to Settle Opioid Claims The ruling in bankruptcy court caps a long legal battle over the fate of a company accused of fueling the opioid epidemic and the family that owns it.
