L’Oreal is currently in a class action lawsuit over their topical collagen product. The product states that it will “ Restore skins cushion“ and “ visibly smooth wrinkles.”
When in truth the collagen molecule is too large to pe*****te the epidermis.
L’Oreal states it did not say the moisturizer would pe*****te the skin or stimulate collagen and that reasonable consumers would not believe otherwise from the products name. US district judge Andrew Carter disagrees with L’Oreal and the process continues.

So why am I bringing this to your attention?

Marketing and advertising is a major strategy that we as consumers need to be aware of. If you do not work in the skincare industry or do not research the science of skin, you can easily be misled by these enticing and appealing tactics.

A little education on topical collagen:

-The molecule is too large to be absorbed by the skins surface.
-Those products will coat the skin which can create the appearance of less fine lines and wrinkles but not through actual absorption for hydration.
-It has not yet been proven to stimulate collagen synthesis or growth.

-There are 29 types of collagen in our body over 90% being types 1-5.

Retinoids/Retinols
Chemical Peels
Microneedling
Lasers

There are amazing products to improve our skin and we have come very far in skincare science, but tricky marketing verbiage will always exist! So, remember to do a little research or better yet find a trusty skincare provider who can help guide you through this process.
