Today is a day for planting seeds. In olden times, people hibernated in their homes since there were no new crops in the harshness of winter, the farm animals weren’t producing milk, and it was a time of waiting for spring to come.

Sometimes, people would keep their farm animals with them in their cabins, to ensure their safety and monitor their cherished resource. February is often when animals would start producing milk and the snow may be starting to melt just enough for certain crops to start regenerating.

When this time came, it brought joy to the whole family, bringing celebration for the new hope that hardships were on their way out, and easier days are coming. This is a big reason of how Imbolc came to be.

In modern society, where resources are easily accessed, we take the opportunity to look inward and start planting our own seeds of what we want to sprout come spring. Although this is not the time to go full force into action, it’s a time of planting what we want to start bringing into fruition.

Life is filled with contrast. Lately the world has been heavy with dualities. It can be difficult to almost feel a battle of wanting to fight and wanting to just hold light.

Once we accept that things aren’t good and bad, this and that, one way or another, we can see the grey area of compromise and calm the battle of feeling “right.”
