The numbers behind hospice care stopped me recently. I think they will stop you too.
80% of Americans say they want to die at home, with the people they love close by. Yet only 38% ever receive hospice care.
That is not just a statistic. It is millions of families who wanted something different and never found their way there.
More than half of all hospice stays are 30 days or less. Most families reach out when they are nearly out of time, not knowing the support existed long before that moment.
Hospice is not only for cancer. Circulatory disease, stroke, and dementia together represent more hospice patients than cancer does. So many families are carrying these illnesses right now without knowing that help is available.
And this is what keeps me going. For the first time ever, more than half of all Medicare patients who passed in 2024 received hospice care.
People are starting to ask sooner. That matters more than I can say.
At Anchor Health Hospice and Palliative Care, this is the work. Helping families find support before the crisis hits, not after.

The people who do this work are extraordinary.
They show up on the hardest days of a family's life. They sit with grief, manage complex pain, navigate conversations most people spend a lifetime avoiding. And they come back the next day and do it again.
The ones who last are not the ones who feel less. They are the ones who work somewhere that takes the weight of this work seriously.
At Anchor Health Hospice and Palliative Care we built the structure around our team intentionally. Small nurse to patient ratios so there is actual time at the bedside.
Tools like virtual reality and music therapy that open doors no medication can. A culture where the emotional reality of this work is acknowledged, not managed away.
Our physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and home health aides stay because purpose and support exist in the same place at the same time.
