Sleeping eight hours but still waking up exhausted? In Ayurveda, unrefreshing sleep often reflects a nervous system stuck in fight-or-flight, where chronic stress elevates cortisol and disrupts sleep and digestion overnight. The aim is Sama Dosha—a balanced state where the body feels safe enough to truly rest. Simple evening rhythms can support this: dimming lights and screens before bed, a warm bath or lavender foot soak, gentle alternate nostril breathing to support the autonomic nervous system, a light early dinner, and sleeping before 10 p.m. to harvest the natural melatonin wave. Predictable routines are read by the nervous system as safety—and safety supports restorative rest. Educational content. Not medical advice.

Feeling tired and heavy all the time, even after rest? In traditional Ayurveda, grief and sadness settle in the upper lobes of the lungs, where they affect Prana, the life force that animates every cell. When breath becomes shallow and restricted, energy can dip and heaviness can set in. Simple practices that restore depth and rhythm to the breath, like fresh-air walks, gentle chest-opening movement, mindful sighs, and deep belly breathing, are traditionally used to support the nervous system and promote balance. Pairing warm, cooked, spiced meals at regular times with morning sunlight supports your natural daily rhythm. Your body is the messenger, not the enemy. Educational content. Not medical advice.

A racing mind at night is traditionally understood in Ayurveda as a Prana Vata pattern within Prana Vaha Srotas — the channel of breath, mind, and emotion, rooted in the heart. When the air element becomes hyperactive, nervous, and agitated, the mind struggles to settle. Ayurveda teaches that when the breath is exhaled the mind becomes empty, and when inhaled it becomes full — this natural rhythm is So Ham, the spontaneous sound of breath. Awareness of breathing and the heartbeat is traditionally used to support balance in this channel. The art of observation invites us to watch emotions without judging, comparing, or labeling them — for the realization of the emotion is the ending of the emotion. A restless mind often carries suppressed feeling, and meeting it without division allows it to soften. This is offered to support nervous system balance and a more settled mind. Educational content. Not medical advice.
