Sonoma SAR: What we do and how to support our work
As volunteer members of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue Unit, we are on call 24 hours a day to search for lost or missing individuals in wilderness, urban, and suburban boundary areas in Sonoma County and neighboring counties.
A callout could be anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours after initial investigations are underway, all depending upon factors such as the terrain and the lost person profile. To facilitate a search effort consisting of many teams, we utilize our mobile command center as a base of operations. The trailer is fully self-contained and serves as a location to conduct operations — around the clock if necessary. The team consists entirely of volunteers along with some paid staff with the Sheriff’s Office.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please visit our website for application details.
The unit also operates a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is used for fundraising efforts in order to augment its limited budget. Please contact us to learn more about how you can support the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office SAR Unit.
