Throughout this week leading up to Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on November 20th, we are uplifting some of the siblings we have lost this year to anti-trans violence. We refuse to let them be forgotten.🏳️‍⚧️🕯️

Our sister Kassim Omar was born in 1995 and died on September 6, 2024 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 29. Kassim was shot by two teenagers in 2022 which left her paralyzed. She believed her assailants were motivated by a hatred of her identity. She died as a result of her injuries two years later. Kassim was born in Somalia and emigrated to the U.S. in 2015, and maintained close connections with her family living in a Kenyan refugee camp. Prior to her assault, Kassim loved to dance and sing, get dressed up to go out, and go on drives. Rest in power, Kassim.

A lo largo de esta semana previa al Día del Recuerdo Trans (TDOR, por sus siglas en inglés) el 20 de noviembre, estamos animando a algunos de los hermanos que hemos perdido este año a causa de la violencia anti-trans. Nos negamos a que caigan en el olvido.🏳️‍⚧️🕯️

Nuestra hermana Kassim Omar nació en 1995 y murió el 6 de septiembre de 2024 en Columbus, Ohio, a la edad de 29 años. Kassim fue disparada por dos adolescentes en 2022, lo que la dejó paralítica. Ella creía que sus agresores estaban motivados por el odio a su identidad. Murió a consecuencia de las heridas dos años después. Kassim nació en Somalia y emigró a Estados Unidos en 2015, y mantenía conexión cercana con su familia que vivía en un campo de refugiados de Kenia. Our sister Amiri Jean Reid was born in 2002 and died on November 14, 2023 in Toledo, Ohio at the age of 21. Amiri and her best friend Kejuan Richardson were driving together when they were shot by another driver. Amari spread positivity, had a great sense of humor, and is remembered as “the life of the party” by friends and family. Rest in power, Amiri.
