🔋 Australia built the world's biggest battery in just 60 days — and it changed how the world thinks about energy storage.
In 2017, Tesla and the South Australian government made a bet. If a giant lithium-ion battery could not be built and operational within 100 days, Tesla would deliver it for free. They finished in 60. The Hornsdale Power Reserve came online and immediately proved that large-scale battery storage was not a futuristic concept — it was ready right now.
The numbers were immediate and undeniable. Grid response times dropped from seconds to milliseconds. Frequency regulation — the invisible backbone of a stable electricity grid — improved dramatically. And the cost savings in the first year alone ran into the tens of millions of dollars. A single battery installation reshaped how an entire state managed its power supply.
Since then, Australia has doubled down. The Hornsdale battery has been expanded. New projects have launched across Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia. The country is building a network of large-scale storage systems designed to back up its rapidly growing solar and wind capacity — and to eventually export clean energy to Asia through undersea cables.
Australia started with a bet. It ended up with a blueprint.

France just activated its largest offshore wind farm — enough Atlantic wind to power all of Paris from a single installation.
The Bretagne Atlantique Wind Farm sits 35 kilometers off the Quiberon peninsula in 35-meter deep Atlantic waters, hosting 160 Vestas V236 turbines each generating 15 megawatts. The Atlantic location delivers dramatically stronger winds than English Channel sites, achieving 52 percent average capacity factor year round. Annual generation of 9.1 terawatt-hours matches Paris's total electricity consumption of 8.9 terawatt-hours precisely.
Construction used Saint-Nazaire port as assembly base, employing 1,800 workers during peak installation and creating 340 permanent operations jobs in Brittany's coastal economy. Submarine cables connect to two separate grid points at Lorient and Saint-Nazaire providing redundant delivery if one cable develops a fault.
France now operates 4.2 gigawatts of offshore wind with 8 additional farms totaling 11 gigawatts under construction, targeting 40 gigawatts by 2035.
