Did you know: The 579th Engineer Battalion descended from the 184th Infantry Regiment and was organized in the California National Guard on May 6, 1929?

This connection is symbolized in the Blue color on the Battalion Crest.

Red and White are the colors for the Corps of Engineers.

The Shovel symbolizes the engineer mission.
The bayonet symbolizes the combat mission.

The Pacific Wright Whale is for the campaign honors awarded for service in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

Command Sergeant Major Bradley Lema of the 579th Engineer Battalion pins the Expert Soldier Badge on Captain Brian Lee after successfully completing the course while deployed in the Middle East. The Expert Soldier qualification consists of six events including the expert physical fitness assessment, land navigation, weapons knowledge, medical assessment, patrolling, and culminates with a 12-mile ruck march. Thank you to everyone that made it to the home of the California Army National Guards Sappers for CSM Brandon Morey 4th Annual Memorial Ruck/Hike this past weekend.

As a group of 55 participants; 7 miles in 2 hours on an amazing day, traveling up to Sapper Hill and back.

Those that were capable, packed the Sapper standard of 35lbs and extended the hike beyond in honor of CSM Morey.

When Morey was the 1SG of the 235th Engineer Company, our formation sounded off with "Sappers Lead the Way!" At every formation!

That tradition continues...
