My mom owns a successful cleaning service going on more than 30 years now and I used to help her clean houses which means I’ve learned a thing or two when it comes to preparing for a housekeeper’s arrival! This doesn’t mean you need to clean the house before they get there, it just means there are a few things you can do to make the service a success! I’ve found a housekeeping company where I live now and apply what I’ve learned from my mom to prep!

- prep bed sheets. This could be as easy as telling them where the sheets are, to setting the clean sheets on the beds you want made. If you don’t have extra sheets, strip the bed and put them to wash so that they are dry by the time the housekeepers arrive

- Any products or tools you want them to use, make them easily accessible and altogether! Some housekeepers bring their own products, mops, and vacuum cleaners, so whatever you prefer, just give them a heads up!

- Declutter as much as you can so you get the best cleaning you can get! And If you spent a lot of time organizing, put things away where they belong to avoid them being misplaced!

- Ask your housekeeper what their policy is for dishes and laundry. Some include it in their regular cleaning, and others dont (which could mean an additional charge). Avoid surprises and prepare accordingly!

- try to stay out of their way. Trust the process. If you NEED to stay home, stick to one area and dont move until they are ready for that space to be cleaned. But if you can, just try to be out of the house! Theres nothing more frustrating as a housekeeper to clean an area and have the client walking around messing up whats been cleaned already. 02/11/2024
