The MEMORIAL DAY PARADE is
May 30th. This is the traditional Military’s observation of the holiday. Our city is one of only a handful of cities in the United States that still follow the original Military’s observance of the solemn day.
With Sault Ste. Marie’s rich Military history, it only makes sense that
VFW Post 3676 and American Legion Post 3, as the facilitators of the parade, would follow the traditional Military date.
If your group would like to take part in the parade to honor those Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, join us and line up behind Pingatore Cleaners at 6:30 pm. The parade begins at 7:00 pm. At the parade’s end, on the court house lawn, there will be a Memorial Ceremony including laying of wreaths and
a 21 gun salute.
As a reminder this is not a political pamphlet passing opportunity nor a candy throwing event. It is a solemn showing of respect for those Veterans who gave their lives for your freedom.

Memorial Day originated after the Civil War to honor fallen soldiers by decorating their graves with flowers, initially known as "Decoration Day". It was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868, by General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic and first observed nationally on May 30, 1868.

Take a moment to remember the fallen this Memorial Day!
