Finally started sewing on my next project and playing with more color on this one. Pairing the black base with colored zips and some coloring book accent panels should make this backpack really pop!

Today I shipped out another custom order rain jacket! Its been a while since I made a jacket and I must say I still enjoy seeing them come to life! The pattern design is my own creation, the colors selected by the client, the Ventek waterproof breathable fabric from and printed with their custom design tool. I do enjoy laying out the cut lines on the print so I don’t have to trace paper pieces! All in all it was a good few days back on the machine sewing this beautiful jacket!

Patience is key when working on a motor’s commutator for your antique sewing machine! This video, at 4x speed, shows how I’m cutting down the insulation between the copper to create a small gap. The motor had a burning smell, and I noticed the dark material was “streaking” onto the copper which led me to think it was melting at the high speed. After some research on this type of motor it appeared that the insulation should be just below the copper face so that the motor brushes get a clean connection. Meticulously cutting it down without damaging the copper is going to take some serious concentration. Each gap takes about 10 minutes of work to cut down about 1/2 millimeter.
