June is Men’s Health Month — a good reminder that bone health matters for men, too.

Bone loss and osteoporosis are often thought of as women’s health concerns, but men can also be at risk, especially with age, inflammatory arthritis, autoimmune disease, long-term steroid use, low vitamin D, low testosterone, smoking, or certain medications.

For rheumatology patients, bone health is an important part of long-term wellness. Talk with your provider about vitamin D, calcium, safe movement, fall prevention, and whether a bone density scan may be appropriate.
