Our dogs are preparing for some well-deserved R&R as if they’ve spent the week working 40 hours and paying our mortgage. The audacity is truly unmatched.

After spending their days judging their foster parents, some of these wrinkle-faced pups could probably use a facial themselves.

Good thing they’ll be at The Medical Spa Studio’s Annual Summer Party tomorrow from 6–8 PM, where they’ll be checking out the exclusive specials and deciding whether their fosters deserve anything.

Unfortunately, in the daily grind of scrubbing dog poo and getting gnawed on by the abominable shark teeth of goblin puppies, we forgot our own birthday.

On June 4th, we turned SEVEN!

What a wild ride those seven years have been - we’ve cried, laughed, bled, sweat, and p*ed our own pants a few times. And then we cried some more.

As you all know, we’re good at a lot of things. Grammar, remembering anniversaries and having enough self control to say “no” to letting the fifth dog sleep in our beds are not among our strengths.

But, if we’ve done anything right, it’s getting to know this amazing community. Simply put, without you, we could not have saved the thousands of dogs that are alive today.

To every single person who fosters, adopts, volunteers, donates, shares our posts, comes out to our events and is willing to learn more about dogs and animal welfare: THANK YOU.

Because of you, we went from a small foster-based rescue to a sprawling organization with our very own shelter. It’s not perfect, but it’s ours. And it saves lives every single day.

We owe seven beautifully messy years to you.

She never saw it coming.

One moment Rainbow was walking and the next she was lying on the side of the road, broken after being struck by a car and unable to understand why her back legs wouldn’t get her to safety.

She couldn’t get up or run - the angel we are calling Rainbow just laid there and suffered.

By the time help arrived, she was dragging herself forward, like a force to be reckoned with, using only her front legs. Despite the pain, she wagged her tail and softly kissed her saviors.
Every instinct told her “keep going!” even though her body had failed her.

We’ve been slammed with medical cases but this girl made us pause.

She is what we want to be - resilient, loving, and determined to rise, no matter the circumstances. So when the rural shelter asked, we said “yes.”

Then, we learned Rainbow wasn’t alone.

She had a best friend: Marsha P. Johnson, who is also injured and will need surgery to repair a broken leg.

Were they hit together? We’ll never know for sure. What we do know, is somehow they gave each other the strength to keep going. They were each other’s chosen family, and we never leave family behind.

Volunteers drove Rainbow, and her friend Marsha P. Johnson to Renegade. A medical foster took her immediately and we made a soft place for Marsha in the shelter. Marsha is looking for a foster 🖤

Rainbow went to the vet, who said they believe - with intensive physical therapy - she could walk again.

The hard part will be getting her there.

Rainbow’s rehabilitation, veterinary care and daily medical needs are expensive. Marsha’s surgery is still ahead of her. But both girls are fighting with everything they have.

Please help us give Rainbow the chance to walk again and Marsha the chance to run pain-free.

If they’re willing to fight this hard for their future, we’re willing to fight for them.
