END OF WATCH.

Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew, 38, a 10 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, was killed in the line of duty on April 25, 2026.

Officer Bartholomew and his partner were assigned to guard a prisoner at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital when the suspect, already in custody, opened fire.

Officer Bartholomew was fatally shot.
A second officer, a 21 year veteran, remains in critical condition and is fighting for his life.

The suspect fled the hospital after the shooting and was later taken back into custody. A weapon was recovered and the investigation remains ongoing.

I had the opportunity to photograph Officer Bartholomew during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Like so many others, he showed up and did the job without asking for recognition.

Now his watch has ended.

Pray for his family.
Pray for the officer still fighting.
And do not forget what it costs to wear the badge.
