Many of you have reached out regarding the Daily Gazette article concerning Schenectady City Councilman Justin Chaires and his service related to the Civilian Police Review Board.

As President of the NAACP Schenectady Branch, I can confirm that the Branch is aware of the article and concerns raised by community members regarding its accuracy and framing.

I was contacted by the Daily Gazette yesterday prior to publication and stated that the allegation that Justin Chaires never served was disputed and not consistent with information known to the Branch. Since publication, additional information, documentation, witness accounts and prior reporting have been brought forward that further call those allegations into question.

The NAACP Schenectady Branch has long advocated for fair, accurate and responsible reporting; particularly when coverage has the potential to damage reputations and influence public perception.

We are gathering information, reviewing documentation and consulting with appropriate parties regarding next steps.

As always, we remain committed to facts, fairness, accountability and TRUTH.

EXPECTATIONS For Public Education Today:
A strong school district should unite a community, not divide it. School Board Trustees are elected to serve students AND taxpayers- not political parties, activist groups, or social media trends. The funding should not be diverted from its intended purpose: the children and educators responsible for student achievement, math proficiency, discipline literacy, vocational opportunities and life skills.
Our expectations are that school board trustee cares for our children and families, follows proven educationally sound principles and directives from the NYSED is deserving of our trust, sets an example for responsible behavior and communication skills, understands how work as a cohesive team, knows how to disagree without being disagreeable, will approves resources for educators and personnel to effectively do their jobs, identifies the problems and seeks expertise to achieve those goals to fill in the gaps, has high expectation for themselves and other, has integrity, honesty, and mature communication skills, and they take pride in their PUBLIC School district. Their main agenda begins and ends with the children. At the end of the day, parents should be able to look at their local public schools and confidently say: our children are learning, our teachers are supported, and our graduates are ready for the future. , ,
SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS AND BUDGET VOTE TODAY 6AM - 9PM. NO EXCUSES. VOTE.
