The Senate approved my measure, along with Senator Lisa Baker, to close a gap in state law by imposing stronger penalties on those who attempt to murder a law enforcement officer and cause serious bodily injury.

This legislation closes that loophole by establishing a 20-year mandatory minimum sentence when someone attempts to murder a law enforcement officer and causes serious bodily injury.
