Today we are recognizing one of our Bearers, Corporal Billy Lashley as he ends his tour of duty with the Marine Corps and the Body Bearer section.

We asked Cpl Lashley “what does being a Body Bearer mean to you?” His answer was:
“Being a Body Bearer is probably the most honorable and humbling experience of my life. And I wouldn’t be the man I am today with out experiencing it with each of my fellow bearers”

Corporal Lashley conducted a total of 624 funerals while at Marine Barracks Washington, including funerals for Medal of Honor recipients Woody Williams and Bruce Wayne Carter. Corporal Lashley also rendered honors for Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Senator John Lewis, and Senator Bob Dole.

Corporal Lashley also proved himself to be a vital member of our team by serving as both recruiter and Ceremonial Drill School Instructor.

We would like to thank and congratulate him for all he has done for the Body Bearer section, the United States Marine Corps, and for his country. We wish him the best of luck during the next chapter of his life in the civilian sector.
