1) I oppose the passage of the American Health Care Act. Rather than close the gap and decrease the rate of chronic and infectious diseases in America, the current proposal will decrease the quality of health care available to America's most vulnerable communities and undermine the ability of state and local health departments to administer life-saving prevention programs and meet the needs of those already living with chronic conditions.
2) Chronic diseases represent 7 out of 10 deaths and cost the United States $1.3 trillion in treatment and lost productivity costs annually. For the first time, a dedicated funding source for prevention, public health and wellness initiatives was established as a result of the Affordable Care Act so state and local health departments can provide much needed care to those living with chronic conditions and to work in their communities to prevent chronic conditions in at-risk populations. The current legislation will jeopardize American's ability to receive prevention and chronic disease management services in states, counties and cities across the country.

The impact of this loss in funding could have serious consequences for people's health. California could lose over $307 million dollars over the next 5 years in funding that would have gone towards infectious disease control and preventative health programs.
