Pioneering sculptor, painter, and video artist Doris Chase helped shape the visual language of the Pacific Northwest. A member of the Northwest School, her public works include “Changing Form” at Seattle’s Kerry Park and “Moon Gates” at Seattle Center.

After moving to New York in 1972 and living at the Chelsea Hotel, Chase expanded into experimental film, cementing her place as one of the region’s most innovative artists.

If you spent any time in Ballard, you knew or recognized Joel. A regular at the record shops, jacket littered with punk pins and patches, he often posted up at Bop Street Records where he first fell into punk rock.

Andhi caught him at the Ballard Farmers Market, happily scarfing through doughnut holes, each bite punctuated with a sharp squawk of pure joy.

A familiar and kind presence, Joel was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Ballard.
