May 5th is MMIW Day: a day to raise awareness for missing and murdered women and children in our First Nation communities. A red hand over the mouth has become the symbol of the growing movement representing silence in the media, law enforcement, and government agencies on this issue, and the oppression and subjugation of Native women throughout history.
