Xbox shipped an estimated 3.2 million consoles worldwide in 2025, according to analyst firm S&P Global.

By comparison, the PlayStation 5 shipped an estimated 17.1 million units, giving Sony a lead of more than 5-to-1 over Xbox.

S&P Global also projects that Sony's next-generation PlayStation 6 will significantly outsell Microsoft's next Xbox console, currently referred to as Project Helix.

The sad truth is.. they are probably right.

And that sends out a powerful message to other companies.. that customer loyalty can be taken for granted.

It’s not a good message though.

Reports claim Sony believes it no longer needs to maintain close communication with PlayStation fans, citing the strength of the PlayStation brand and the loyalty of its player base.

According to the reports, the company expects players to continue purchasing its games as it gradually shifts toward a digital-only future.

The reports also claim Sony believes the backlash over moving away from physical game releases will eventually fade, with most players expected to adapt to buying games digitally.
