The French violin I purchased while I was in Los Angeles by Nicolas Didier, made in 1820 in Mirecourt France. I also purchased a microphone to record it with! Being in a violin shop is like being in a candy store for me. Every violin has it’s own personality and it’s like speed dating. Some sound bright, loud, extroverted, feel responsive, and are full of horsepower. Some sound dark, quiet, introverted, feel like they’re in a slumber, and are more cozy. I think mine is in the middle. I played hundreds of them while shopping around in different cities. This process takes years. In the end it’s the instrument that chooses the player and this was the one for me. 2023
