We are excited to welcome Katie Weigandt (ChemE Ph.D. '12), who was the 2025 recipient of the Early Career Impact Award, to give a special seminar on Tuesday, March 3.

Weigandt is a staff scientist at the NIST Center for Neutron Research where she uses small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and rheology to develop structure-function relationships in gels, colloidal suspensions, microemulsions and micellar solutions.

Chemical engineering student Nuo Xu (Ph.D. ‘25) has led extensive research in the Nance Lab () formulating a therapeutic nanoparticle shown to effectively reduce neuroinflammation resulting from fetal growth restriction in newborn piglets. Her success is paving the way for future clinical trials providing the same treatment to human infants.

This work has been a collaboration with researchers at the University of Queensland ().

DYSS 2025 Speaker: Efraín Rodríguez-Ocasio

Rodríguez-Ocasio is a postdoctoral fellow at the of Wisconsin-Madison Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center.

He will be giving a talk titled "Microbial Bioconversion for Sustainability: Plastic Upcycling and Beyond" on Tuesday, August 26 from 1-2 p.m. on Zoom.
