HiPP Stage 1 vs Stage 2 — we get this question every single day, so let's settle it once and for all. 🌿

Stage 1 is designed to be as close to breast milk as possible. Whey-dominant, lactose-based, and gentle on a brand new digestive system. It does everything on its own from birth to 6 months, no rush, no pressure.

Stage 2 is not an upgrade. That is the part most parents get wrong.
It is a different formula built for a different phase. Around 6 months, your baby's natural iron stores start to deplete and their bones are working harder as they become more mobile and start exploring solid foods. Stage 2 has more iron and calcium to support exactly that. It is designed to work alongside that first food journey — not replace the formula entirely.

One thing worth knowing before you order Stage 2: the Dutch version is starch-free and soy-free. The German version contains both. For a lot of parents that makes the Dutch version the clear choice — but it is worth knowing the difference before you click checkout.

And if your baby is still thriving on Stage 1 at 6 months and one day? There is absolutely no emergency. Every baby is different. Watch your baby, not the calendar.
