Give BIG to support Indigenous youth in building bright futures! 👩‍🌾👷👩‍🔬

Please donate TODAY 🙏 here: https://www.oneequalheart.org/donate

In an era of rising division, where the principles of empathy and justice are frequently under siege, your presence in the One Equal Heart family is more vital than ever. Together, we continue the essential work of uplifting Indigenous youth in rural Chiapas, bridging the gap between systemic exclusion and genuine opportunity. 🌟

Guadalupe Guzmán, a 14-year-old girl from the San Ramon community in Chiapas, has been participating in the “Young People Empowering Their Future” project for eight months. Already, she feels a growing sense of empowerment 🙌:

“I enjoy attending the workshops because I didn't have the opportunity to continue my schooling due to a lack of resources. Before this project, my life was very different: I simply stayed at home, helping with household chores. I was unmotivated. I felt very shy about participating in any group. Now, every time I attend a session, I feel like I’m going to school. I learn very important things. I had never heard about contraceptive methods or sexual relations before; these topics are simply not discussed in my community. But now I realize just how important it is for me to know this information for my life! It allows me to protect myself when I am in a relationship and avoid pregnancy or marrying at a young age. It allows me to pursue my education and my dreams.”

🙏Will you donate so that Guadalupe and other Indigenous youth like her can increase access, voice, and agency to build bright futures of their own making?

🫶Your gift will transform the lives of Guadalupe and 69 other Indigenous youth to increase their opportunities to build the life they envision. By investing in empowering youth with tools to take charge of their lives, we spark in them a catalyst for good that can be leveraged to build opportunity, gender equality, and economic growth.

Hi Everyone,
As we approach Thanksgiving, we want to celebrate Maya cultural values of gratitude, including thanking Mother Nature for the bountiful life-sustaining power of the corn crop, the much-needed rain, the value of work in our lives, the cooperation with people around us, and the powerful act of giving thanks from the heart.
Thank you for making a crucial difference in supporting the mission of One Equal Heart, upholding the hard work of Indigenous families and communities to live more healthy, sustainable, and equitable lives!
With gratitude,
The One Equal Heart Team

Greetings from Merida, on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico!

During our visit, we organized a workshop for the Go Birding Program volunteers to encourage them to come up with ideas to deepen the program’s positive impact on the participating children and their communities.

The idea of this workshop was inspired by the story of Hilda Huitzil. Hilda is a Go Birding volunteer guide from Punta Arena, a small community on the Mexican Caribbean coast. Hilda is also the mother of a daughter who is visually impaired. Not only did Hilda overcome many challenges to become a volunteer guide, but she also went even further, beyond what anyone expected! She and her daughter, Estrella, created two bird guides in Braille by hand, using a Braille slate to punch out the raised Braille characters one at a time. One guide includes 25 species of marine birds and the other 30 species of terrestrial birds. Hilda and Estrella want to open the doors to the Go Birding program to include other visually impaired children in nearby communities so they can learn about birds and connect them with nature. Hooray!!!

Hilda’s initiative shows us the power of creativity, compassion, and transformation, a message that our One Equal Heart family values.

Thanks to your generosity, One Equal Heart will support Hilda's initiative to reproduce five copies of the bird guide in Braille through a partnership with the Washington State Braille Access Center.
