Afrique were a one-and-done instrumental super group of session cats whose sole album is a mildly eclectic funk classic that’s become a sample gold mine. The band’s best-known names are Chuck Rainey (bass), King Errisson (percussion), Paul Humphrey (percussion), and David T. Walker (guitar). Side 1’s full of excellent interpretations of R&B, pop, funk, and African tunes of varying notoriety. On side 2, the band bust out some incredibly funky, party-starting jams.
