Parking Lots is OUT NOW! and you can/should hit the link to listen here: https://music.kellanrad.com/parkinglots-organic

Here's a small live performance of verse 2, or, my favorite lines I wrote for the song, namely, "I've heard it all before and now I'm bored listening || to 'millionaire life hacks' bitch-made fiction || work hard, die young, shining in a black hole void || all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".

A lot of us (especially Americans) are subjugated to meritocracy and mantras of “blood sweat and tears”. Work as hard as you can, then work a bit more. And I think anyone who knows me knows that I’m a bit of a type-A workaholic. But, as an artist and freelancer, the work doesn’t really ever stop. It doesn’t matter how much you work, there’s always more to be done. And we hear about these “life hacks” that all theses successful people/influencers/life-coaches boast because “you TOO can become a millionaire in these 3 steps.”

Now, not all of it is bu****it, there’s definitely something to be said about hard work and perseverance. But I’ll be damned if any of these people really have it figured out, no matter how hard they’re selling it. Wake up at 4am, meditate for an hour, run a 10k, journal, eat metric ton of superfoods, read an entire book, “grind” for 14 hours, then sleep for 10 more. There’s so much pressure just to be an optimal person and you can’t escape it.

The hook, which was written back when I was 20, was an actual ode to my car (shoutout yeee old ’94 Lexus, now long dead) and the memories of hotboxing it hundreds of times back in high school. The hook always stuck with me, and though the song’s overall meaning has changed, I’ll still remember that car as one place where I could really unplug and let go of that stress even if just for a half hour (chyaa bro, w**d is prime!).

Anyway, I just wanted to share a little bit about the song’s meaning cuz I’ve learned the hard way that it’s really never enough. No matter what you’re after. More more more more more. Be kind to yourself, and learn to chill the F out however you can. “F**k that, hit the breaks, I want to spin out in space, and slow the world’s spinning with a rip to the face”. Thanks for rockin with me :)
