So freaking grateful!

When I started while training as a certified menstrual health coach & educator I honestly had no plan for what I wanted to create.

I was following my intuition when it came to my career for the first time in my life.

All I knew was I was on a mission to get out there and change the world one period at a time.

Since then I’ve had the privilege and honor of supporting the most amazing humans on their cycle journeys through 1:1 menstrual mentorship plus teaching workshops/retreats on and offline and loving every minute of it!

Yesterday I was setting up to teach a cyclical cooking workshop at .seattle and took a mindful minute to soak it all in.

The exciting opportunity to be a partner teacher, beautiful space I was in and amazing women I’d be sharing the afternoon with.

A wave a gratitude washed over me and I knew in that moment that even though I didn’t have a clear picture in my mind when I began my work as a menstrual mentor, taking a feminine approach to creating my business (following my instincts & joy) has led to exactly where I’m supposed to be.

As the workshop wrapped up and each woman shared what they were taking with them from our time together - a deeper sense of self, new ways to connect with their cycle, feelings of validation and empowerment and energized from an afternoon surrounded by other women and all the beautiful feminine energy - I felt then and there I’m truly living my mission.

Headed into thanksgiving and the season of gratitude I just wanted to take a moment and share mine for all of you here in this community.

You are all the biggest part of everything I do and I’m so thankful for your support, encouragement, inspiration, collaboration and willingness to talk period talk all day long with me!

So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you 🙏

I hope this week you’ll take a minute and still with the things you’re grateful for, let them wash over you and celebrate them, before digging into a delicious piece of pumpkin pie perhaps 🥰

It’s time to set the record straight. If you’re like me, you’ve probably come to believe some things about your period that are just plain untrue.

In her book, In the Flo (one of my favorite books on menstrual health) , Alisa Vitti summarizes the most common (and harmful) period myths.

The short version?

PMS IS NOT NORMAL.

Common? 100% AND something I personally experienced for 20+ without ever questioning it…just suffering through like most of us do…BUT, this simple truth has been life changing for me and after making some small but mighty changes I’ve seen beautiful results both for myself and the amazing women I work with as a menstrual cycle coach…but that’s another story for another day.

Back to the myths. We as women are most often told or have learned to tell ourselves:

Myth 1: PMS is just part of having a period.

The truth in a nutshell: IT’S NOT. PMS symptoms only arise when there is a cycle imbalance. Further, this myth is harmful because it forces you to suffer unnecessarily and prevents you from knowing to look for solutions. Most PMS symptoms can be erased when we live in tune with our cycle, eating the right food and nurturing ourselves.

Myth 2: Cramps are unavoidable

The truth in a nutshell: THEY’RE NOT. You don’t have to suffer from cramps. Did you know your body creates two types of hormones that counteract cramps? When you consume the right foods for your cycle you provide the building blocks your body needs to promote the production of these natural painkillers.

Myth 3: If you have a bad period there’s not much you can do

The truth in a nutshell: FALSE. When you’re sick, do you take action to promote faster healing? Of course. The fact that when we’re having period-related symptoms we tend to ignore them (and the root cause) is just, well, insane really when you think about it from this perspective…which to be honest I never had. The reality is you can do something, you can take action, change your hormonal reality and have a better period. You deserve it 💕
