On February 19th, we gathered at the Ruth Asawa Garden of Remembrance at San Francisco State University to honor the nineteen students who were forced from their studies in 1942 and sent to U.S. concentration camps. The Wakasa Spirit Stone stood with us in the garden, a quiet witness to remembrance and resistance. As we called each name, descendants of the nineteen held lanterns for their ancestors—small lights glowing in the dusk—carrying forward stories that were nearly erased and reminding us: they were students, and they are not forgotten.
