Traditional method cider has been quietly evolving for years, while the wine world slowly catches up. Across Vermont and Washington, makers like Eden Ciders and Finnriver are using secondary fermentation, riddling, and disgorgement to create sparkling bottles with texture, depth, and structure that rival high-end sparkling wine.
The conversation is no longer whether fine cider exists. It is whether the rest of the industry is finally ready to take it seriously.

This year’s competition celebrated the incredible innovation, craftsmanship and creativity shaping today’s cider industry, with entries submitted from across the United States, Canada and as far as Ukraine.
From refined traditional tannic ciders to bold botanical blends, fruit-forward modern styles and boundary pushing co-ferments, the 2026 awards showcased some of the finest ciders being produced today.
A huge congratulations to all of this year’s medalists and Judges’ Picks — including standout performances from Snow Capped Cider, Schilling Cider, Puget Sound Cider Company, Soundbite Cider , Champlain Orchards and many more.
