Justice for REGROW-Affected Communities in Tanzania 03/03/2026

URGENT: Please sign The Oakland Institute's petition to the World Bank to address worsening conditions for communities in Tanzania:

"In April 2025, the Bank released an Action Plan that included pledges from the government that there will be no forced resettlement of the people now considered to be living inside Ruaha National Park; that farming and pastoral livelihoods would be allowed to resume; and that two projects would provide livelihood support for communities.

Over ten months have passed since the plan was announced but the situation on the ground has only worsened. Bank-funded park rangers have killed two more villagers and continue to terrorize communities. Despite explicit assurances that livelihood activities would resume, restrictions remain in place – directly contradicting the Bank’s own written commitments and pushing thousands into destitution."

Our partners at Front and Centered have alerted us to an urgent action item:

We’re nearing the end of the legislative session which means its budget season down here in Olympia. Budget writers in Olympia released their draft budget plans and while there is much to celebrate, including energy assistance funds and wildfire resilience, we are concerned about proposed cuts to the Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act.

Use this link to defend the HEAL Act now! https://win.newmode.net/protect-landmark-environmental-justice-policy

Both the House and the Senate have cut funding for the Environmental Justice Council, agency staff charged with implementing HEAL, and the Environmental Health Disparities Map.

For our supporters who have been tracking our work for a long time you’ll recognize the HEAL Act as our landmark environmental justice legislation that passed in 2021. Thanks to funding from the HEAL Act, the Council, state agencies, and community based organizations have dedicated their time and energy to projects and programs that have reduced health disparities in our most overburdened and polluted communities.

The state is in a precarious budget situation but balancing the budget should not come at the expense of our young environmental justice movement. We’re asking you today to help us stop these cuts from taking place by contacting budget writers in both the House and Senate.

Take action to protect this landmark legislation: https://win.newmode.net/protect-landmark-environmental-justice-policy
