On July 25, Early Music Seattle is thrilled to partner with Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission to present music by SurLlajta at Deception Pass State Park as part of the American Roots Concert Series!
SurLlajta presents vibrant Andean music, celebrating the living traditions of the South American Andes through engaging performances. The ensemble features traditional instruments such as guitar, charango, zampoña (panpipes), quena (flute), bombo, and bass, blended with keyboard and vocals in Spanish and Quechua. Formed by five musicians from Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Peru, and China, SurLlajta brings a rich cross-cultural perspective to traditional and festive repertoire, inviting audiences to experience the rhythms, stories, and heritage of the Andes.

Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 (formally titled “Vespro della Beata Vergine”) is a monumental work of sacred music that bridges the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Vox Luminis, under the direction of bass singer Lionel Meunier, has been internationally renowned for its distinctive timbre, both in its intimate productions with soloists and in its largest and most ambitious projects. You won't want to miss this combination!
