What You Wanna Know Wednesday
⁉️
We get questions all of the time about plant care, so we’re starting a new weekly series where we share our commonly asked questions and answers with you!
🪰
This week we’re talking about fungus gnats.
🪰
If you own a houseplant you have probably swatted one of these little jerks away from your face mid zoom meeting.
🪰
These pests originate from an infected plant brought into your home. They breed in moist soil where there is decaying matter to feed on and lay they eggs. They can eat away at the roots of your plants and cause them to yellow or die.
🪰
The best way to get rid of fungus gnats is to repot your plant with fresh, dry soil. Shake out the roots to remove as much soil as possible and use an unopened bag of indoor potting mix.
🪰
To keep from a further infestation make sure not to overwater your plants. If water your plants from the, water deeply every 7-10 days, rather than watering lightly daily or multiple times a week.
🪰
Unfortunately the best way to eliminate adults is to use sticky traps. These traps are not the most humane, but they are the most effective. (Trust me, I have tried everything 😐)
