"Dr. Briana Abrahms (Lakeside '04) is a wildlife ecologist with broad interests in spatial and behavioral ecology, global change biology, and conservation. She began her scientific career conducting behavioral observations on her pet dog Jake and cat Yunkie in 3rd grade. Many years later, she finds herself working on more slippery species under the ocean as a Presidential Management Fellow at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California Berkeley’s Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management. Her research focuses on studying the effects of environmental variability and change on large vertebrate populations, particularly through the lens of large-scale animal movements in both terrestrial and marine systems. In this talk she will share about novel advancements in animal tracking technology that are allowing researchers to monitor changes in our ecosystems, for example due to climate change, in unprecedented ways."
