Alki Point Lighthouse
The Alki Point Lighthouse, built in 1913, is temporarily closed to the public. We hope to restart tours in 2026.
We have some very unfortunate news to share. The Alki Point Lighthouse will not be open for tours for the rest of this summer and we are not sure when it will reopen.
Recent testing has revealed a higher level of lead in the lighthouse structure (from old paint) than was previously found. The Coast Guard, out of an abundance of caution, will not allow public access to the site until the lead level can be significantly reduced.
We are hopeful that a remediation plan and funding will come through and that the lighthouse will again be able to welcome visitors at some point, although we do not have a timeline yet.
Our tour team is hoping to develop some educational content to share here on our page.

Some of our visitors are interested in how Alki Point and the Alki neighborhood of Seattle got its name. This website gives some background on the origins of the word from the "Chinook Wawa" trade language that was used between native groups and between natives and non-natives in the era when British and American settlers began to come to the Pacific Northwest.
Your Chinook Wawa Word of the Day: Alki — Cascadia Department of Bioregion ALKI [AHL-kee] (historical) or [al-KAI] (modern) — adverb. Meaning: Eventually; someday; in the future; times to come; presently; directly; later; in a little while; after a while; shortly; will; shall; Origin: Chinook alkekh > From a Chinookan particle álqi 'will be', ‘later on’
