Computing Kids is Hiring Part Time Teachers!
About this Job
As part of Computing For All, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Computing Kids is a program dedicated to bringing computer science education to K-8 students in the Greater Seattle Area. Our teachers guide students to imagine, design, and collaborate as they learn the logic and programming skills to help them succeed in school and beyond.
Our mission is to foster curiosity in students, inspiring them to become active creators rather than passive consumers of technology. We also strive to close the gender gap in tech by making it a priority to give young girls the tools and the confidence to excel in technical fields.
Job Description
We are looking for passionate, self-directed individuals who are interested in learning, teaching, and working with children on a part-time basis. We currently offer classes in Scratch, HTML/CSS, Java, and Python, among others. We provide the curriculum for our classes and camps.
Our teachers are responsible for preparing materials for each class, leading the lesson, evaluating student needs and progress and adjusting accordingly, communicating with parents, and helping students work through problems during work time. We typically pair our new teachers in a team with a returning teacher. After-school classes run weekly for about 8 weeks (variable), with start times between 2:30pm and 4:00pm. We also run boot camps and summer camps, which offer opportunities for more work hours.
Depending on your interest, aptitude, and availability, there may also be opportunities to do curriculum development work.
Job Requirements
● Coding experience (Scratch, Python, Java, HTML preferred)
● Enthusiasm for working with K-8 students (classroom management experience preferred)
Wages
After-school classes are paid on a fee basis. For an hour-long class in your first quarter of teaching, we pay $40 (this is based on the expectation that you also spend time on lesson preparation, arrive 15 minutes early to the class, write reflections after each class, have short weekly check-ins with our Director of Education, etc.). After the first quarter, this will increase to $50 per hour-length class taught. We pay a little extra for longer classes and for long commutes.
Boot Camps and Summer Camps are paid at $20/hr.
Class location: 901 Lenora St, Seattle, WA 98121, USA
Please note: These are in person classes.

Organize the learning environment:
Set your student up for success by creating a calm and organized work space. Help them feel prepared by having the supplies they will need to complete the day's tasks.
Shout out to all the teachers, grown ups and students that are working hard to make this different type of school year a success. We are all learning to adjust and finding the routines that work for each family. At Computing Kids we want to offer support any way we can. If you have a back to school tech question reach out here or at [email protected].
Once your question has been uploaded, we will gather the best possible answer and create a video that will explain the solution to your question in detail. These videos will be published to our page and stored in an easy-to-use directory on our YouTube channel, which is available for all students and parents who may have a similar question.
Happy learning!
