Lotus L. Kang's "Molt" is made of cascading sheets of unfixed photographic film that the artist calls “skins.” She exposes, or “tans,” the sheets in multiple locations, including a greenhouse in upstate New York, and their surfaces take on physical impressions of their surroundings, such as a splash of rain and the ghostly form of chimes that once hung nearby.
Experience the piece in the immersive space of her exhibition "I hear the hollow boom of time" at the museum through Sept 27.
